Night Slam Cancelled, only one more Brockton Poetry Series

We at Brockton Arts are in the process of reworking our programming.  Our plan is to have only 1 poetry performance event a month.

What this means:

  • We are cancelling Night Slam.
  • This October 23rd will be our last Brockton Poetry Series
  • The Poetry Writing Workshop which takes place every 3rd Sunday of the month WILL continue on.

Please bear with us as we are evolving as an organization.

Brockton Poetry Series featuring Nausheen Eusuf

Please join us Tuesday, October 23rd as Brockton Poetry Series welcomes featured poet Nausheen Eusuf!

Nausheen Eusuf was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently a PhD candidate in English at Boston University, she holds a BA from Wellesley College, an MA from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins, and an MA in English from the University of Georgia.

 

Her poetry has appeared in The American Scholar, Southwest Review, Salmagundi, PN Review, Literary Imagination, Smartish Pace, and World Literature Today, and has been selected for inclusion in Best American Poetry 2018. She is the author of the chapbook What Remains (2011) from Longleaf Press, and the full-length collection Not Elegy, But Eros (2017), published simultaneously by NYQ Books in the US and Bengal Lights Books in Bangladesh.

Brockton Poetry Series featuring Dana Robert Rowe

On Tuesday, August 28th, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes featured poet Dana Robert Rowe:

Dana Robert Rowe has been writing poetry since 1967. He earned his BS in English at Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1977 and went on to become a journalist/editor at weekly and daily newspapers and regional magazines. He also wrote and anchored radio news at radio sations WBSM and WNBH and served as a talk show host thereafter. He worked as a writer of driver profiles for the Seekonk Speeway program in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. He began writing race results summaries for the speedway in 2011 and has contributed more than half-a-million words over that time. He’s written several dramas, and a musical piece, “Main Track”, was produced cabaret-style in 2008. And he still continues to write poetry, a bunch of which has been published including a chapbook, also named “Main Track” which accompanied the musical.

Brockton Poetry Series featuring Iris Lapaix

On July 24th, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes featured poet Iris Lapaix:

Iris Lapaix is a Dominican-American Afro Latina native to Boston, MA. She utilizes various art forms–such as but not limited to poetry, music and cooking–in her rotation of pleasures. She’s been writing poetry since her youth and enjoys the beauty of painting a portrait or scene with the rhythm of words.  Graduated from Bridgewater State University with a BA in History and a concentration in Latino America y el Caribe. Currently, she is igniting art and design in neighborhoods such as Grove Hall and Roxbury with MassArt’s Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP) as an assistant Community Coordinator. Off-hours she continues to learn of her ancestral past while strengthening her empathy and listening skills to become a radical healer through the arts and conversation starter for Black and Brown folks.

Brockton Poetry Series featuring Zak Sidelinger

On Thursday, June 26th, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes featured poet Zak Sidelinger!

Zak Sidelinger was born and raised in Brockton and wouldn’t have it any other way.  He started writing poems when his friend Kaili shared her own poetry with him.  Zak is chiefly inspired by musicians and entertainers as varied as Tim Burton, Serj Tankian, Walt Disney, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Jesse Rutherford.  For him, poetry has been a vital outlet for him writing about PTSD, self-harm, sexuality, self-discovery and love.

Brockton Poetry Series featuring Astrid Drew

On Tuesday, April 24th Brockton Poetry Series welcomes featured poet Astrid Drew!

Astrid Drew is a writer and archivist based in Providence, Rhode Island.  She has been part of the staff of the Providence Poetry Slam for over 8 years, and she was a member of the 2014 Providence Slam team. She has featured at several open mic/slam nights, including the Dirty Gerund and was recently a featured poet on ECAT Studios’ show “For the Love of Words.” When not writing, or researching maritime history like it’s her job (cause it is), she likes to go running with her pit bull mix, and attending live shows in her favorite little city.
