June 27th: Brockton Poetry Series featuring Rene Schwiesow

On Tuesday, June 27th, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes Rene Schwiesow.

Rene Schwiesow is co-host for the South Shore Poetry venue The Art of Words.  A Somerville Bagel Bard, her publishing credits include Muddy River Poetry Review, The Waterhouse Review, and Ibbetson Street Press. Her work has been aired on the Talking Information Network, a non-profit service for the visually impaired.  She has been a guest on radio shows in both Massachusetts and Vermont as well as on Somerville, Plymouth, Wareham, and New Bedford, MA local television, and has had her work in the spotlight on the Massachusetts Poetry Festival website. She is a managing editor for Ibbeston Street Magazine. Rene’s book, Shades is forthcoming by Cervena Barva Press.

Alexandra Arbia

A Brockton native, Alexandra Arbia pursued the arts at the encouragement of an elementary school teacher and went on to take fine art courses at Brockton High School. She is currently working toward a BFA in illustration and has attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Inspired by animals and nature, her work utilizes watercolors, acrylics, and oils.

Kenny ‘Aluk’ Cloud

Kenny ‘Aluk’ Cloud was born in Chatham New Brunswick, Canada in 1949. He was raised by foster parents on the Eel Ground Reservation. At an early age, Cloud was educated at an Indian Reservation School in Nova Scotia. At 16 he moved in with his grandparents at Metepenagiag (Red Bank) New Brunswick, near the mighty Miramichi River along with three cousins. Cloud was inspired to make arts and crafts by watching the Elders in his community create baskets, leather clothing, pottery and beadwork. After further researching the artwork of his people, such as the Mi’Kmaq textiles, he began creating his own artwork at 16, exploring the themes and history of Mi’kmaq culture

May 23rd: Brockton Poetry Series featuring Jason Wright

On Tuesday, May 23rd, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes Jason Wright.

Jason Wright is the editor and founder of Oddball Magazine. He is co-host of the Oddball Show Podcast which can be found on Itunes and Stitcher radio.   His first full length book “A Letter to the World” is available on Amazon from Tell-Tale Chapbooks.   Wright has been featured most recently on the show For the Love of Words with Rich Berg, and has been a featured panelist at Massachusetts Poetry Festival.   His work has been well received in many poetry venues around Boston, and has been published widely in books and online. He has read for the Mayor and the City of Boston, and has been featured in Somerville Scout, and Dig Boston.   Wright’s column “Jagged Thoughts” appears every Tuesday in Oddball Magazine.

Melissa Cruz began taking her artwork more seriously at the encouragement of her high school art teacher. She earned her Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2014 at Bridgewater State University. One of her professors, Mercedes Nunez, was as a major source of inspiration.  Her work utilizes acrylics, plaster, and collage materials.

On Tuesday, April 25, Brockton Poetry Series welcomes Ryk McIntyre:

Ryk McIntyre has been a legendary presence on the New England poetry scene for decades. Which is to say, he is rarely photographed and not everyone is convinced he really exists. He has toured extensively around the continental United States and Canada, appearing on stages as varied as NYC’s New School, Portsmouth NH’s Music Hall, Lollapalooza and the very first “Legends of The Slam” Showcase, at the National Poetry Slam in 2006 in Austin, TX. He has also appeared at countless poetry venues, festivals and house parties. He has been published widely, most notably, in The Worcester Review, Off the Coast, Short Fuse- An Anthology of New Fusion Poets, and Aim for the Head – An Anthology of Zombie Poetry.
